Throughout the past 36 years, our clients have repeatedly said that they want to hire temporary employees through Blue Arbor, Inc. because we can screen and retain qualified employees quickly and economically.
Just prior to establishing the company, we conducted surveys of the largest employers in our corporate area to determine temporary employee needs. The response was overwhelmingly in favor of opening the first temporary help agency in New Bern, NC. Clients began calling for temporary employees to help with vacations, illness and to assist with special projects. Eventually, manufacturing operations made the decision to hire temporary employees to assist with the fluctuation in production demands. Currently, approximately 65% of our temporary employees are being offered full-time positions with our clients in less than one year.
Recruiting applicants can be time consuming and expensive. We utilize many different methods. Internet recruiting, employee referrals, newspaper advertising, job fairs, state agencies, as well as membership in many business organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce.
Our thorough screening of employees is vital. We begin with an application to help us better understand an employee’s skills. Next, we conduct an interview followed by reference checks and skills testing. This screening process assists us in matching an employee’s skills and abilities to the right client. A drug test and background check are completed when the proper match has been made. All of these steps are time-consuming but of the utmost importance. We have a dedicated division that performs all drug testing and background checks.
Occasionally, a temporary employee is placed with a client which is not the right fit. Our clients like having the ability to simply call us and get a replacement.
We have clients who work in multiple states, and they like being able to call us wherever they need our assistance. Since we have Worker’s Compensation Insurance coverage throughout the U.S. and we are very experienced in remote hiring, it has been a win-win situation for our clients.
Employer payroll expenses have risen significantly! FICA, Medicare, SUTA, FUTA, and ACA are all elements that have made it more challenging for clients. It only makes sense for many businesses to hire temporary employees until the concrete need to hire a full-time employee has been established.
Many employers have made hiring temporary employees a part of their business model. It is always a decision based on what is best for your business but what do you have to lose? After all, it is only temporary!
